adWordpress has been around since blogging was in its infancy, and it has grown as a result.
Gone are the days when we had one use for the software, for now you can simply add a theme and your website can take on an entirely new look, feel and, most importantly, use.
In this article, we will be taking a look at 10 different uses for Wordpress, websites that can be easily set up and used by you.
You will notice that I have not included blogging in this list. Having been written for the purposes of blogging, I felt that this was a little too obvious.
Intranet
If you want to share information throughout your organization, then an intranet can be a great thing. You get to provide your version of a website, without the problems of being online.
Using Wordpress for this makes perfect sense, as you can add quick releases to your staff, and each department can have its own section.
For ease of use, you cannot really beat using Wordpress for this as, once set up, you have an easy to use system that even an adult can use.
Local News & Entertainment
None of us are happy with our local government websites, obviously written to make themselves look good and give basic information, if we are lucky, to local people.
If you are not happy, why not set up your own?
The bonus of creating a local news and entertainment website, is that you can pull in local advertisers that would not otherwise advertise online. They will know that their ad will be seen mainly by local people, so they get to be seen.
You may even find yourself receiving free entry to events, and even free meals.
Assign Articles
You may want to create a Wordpress installation separate from your main website, to give you the freedom to gather information and play with it, before it is seen by the viewing public.
One reason for this, could be to have all of your writers log into this site and submit their articles. You can then go through them, edit them if required, and see how they look when published.
TV Shows
You have your favourite TV show and you want to let everybody know about it. Why not create a website?
Each Category could be a season of the show, and you can have an episode guide as a sub-category, then your users could add comments and you can get a good discussion going.
You could also do this for multiple shows, making each show a category and each season a sub-category, with each episode a sub-category of that.
Video
Unless you’ve been sleeping under a rock for the past few years, you will have noticed that video is big on the web.
This is the time to get into creating some form of video website, whether it is just pulling in code from Youtube or adding your own files.
If you find yourself pulling in enough users, you will then receive money from advertising.
Ever wanted to get into the world of indie film? This is your opportunity.
Newsletter
If you are looking for the right newsletter software, why not use Wordpress. It has everything built in, an RSS feed and much more.
All you have to do, is create the content and have people sign up on the site, they could easily follow a simple link from your main website.
If you get enough users, you could even sell advertising space on the website.
Fan Page
Leading on from the TV Shows idea, you could have a website on your favorite celebrities. This could be just one or a whole host of celebrities, packed into your website.
Get people commenting on your posts and you have the start of a sticky website.
Reviews
Easily set up your own reviews website with Wordpress. As well as getting to talk about the things you like, and hate, you can also bring in others with the same interest to write reviews for you.
Take a look online and see the review websites. Do you agree with what they have to say? If not, why don’t you do it yourself?
You could film yourself reviewing and add this to the site, for a truly personal feel.
Corporate
When running a business, the feel of the website is of extreme importance. It is often the first contact with your future customers, and is what they will often judge your entire company on.
It will depend on your company, but you will usually want a clean look that is easy to navigate. You will also want it to be memorable and updated often.
Church
A church website needs to do various things. It needs to show the members of the church, the beliefs of the church and, most importantly, the times of services and other events taking place during the week.
As with a corporate site, this needs to look clean and fresh, with an easy to navigate menu, as you will have users of all ages and abilities.
Having said that, a church website is a great way to reach the local community and is something that all churches should have.
Portfolio & Gallery
Modern day online galleries and personal portfolio’s are usually clean, minimalistic designs which are easy to navigate around and clear in displaying it’s contents.
Combining your blog within the same design is a must for many designers and photographers alike.
There are, of course, many more uses for Wordpress, but I have written this to give you just a brief glimpse of what is available and, maybe, give you some ideas.
